Plymouth & Cornwall Cancer Fund Grants

In the last 40 years the charity has been improving the quality of treatment in Derrifiord Hospital by providing equipment, has funded an extension to the waiting area in the Oncology department, has provided funds for research and education but, perhaps, most importantly and fairly uniquely, has assisted cancer sufferers and carers with financial support when financial hardship, as a result of the diagnosis, has been established.

In the past 2 years we have funded:-

  • three specialist nurse training posts (oncology, teenage and young patients with cancer, haematology)

  • a part time Chaplain

  • a dynometer for the oncology department

  • a sarcoma research project

  • attendance at conferences and training events for cancer staff

  • a lung cancer project aimed at improving the lives of those patients

  • financial support for individual patients when financial hardship arises from having cancer

None of this would be or would have been possible without the generous and continuous support we receive from local people – mainly through the shop – and our volunteers. For details of how you can help and support us, go to

Supporting Hardship

Our Patients travel from far and wide for treatment, the cost can be immense and a constant cause for worry. Funding is often not available through statutory routes for patient’s who’s income has reduced but no benefits are payable to help with the shortfall. The Plymouth & Cornwall Cancer Fund provide an invaluable service, relieving financial hardship and anxieties, and truly making a difference. ”Denise Martin.
