Chair
Sara Aspley
Sara Aspley is currently the Chair of Plymouth and Cornwall Cancer Fund, having joined the Board of Trustees in 1999.
She has been involved with cancer patients since qualifying as a Therapeutic Radiographer at Guy’s Hospital in the early 1970s. Working in cancer care throughout her career in various parts of the country, until her retirement from the post of Cancer Network Director for the SW Peninsula Cancer Network
Improving cancer care and supporting those affected by cancer has always been an important part of who she is. From providing patient information and playing a part in the hospice movement in the 1970’s to working with Professor Mike Richards, National Cancer Tsar, to improve cancer treatments and care in the 2000s.
Her vision is to ensure that the charity’s work is recognised as a vibrant charity, contributing towards improved cancer care for those affected by cancer, throughout the region.

Sian Dennison
After over 30years in cancer nursing Sian has recently retired as Lead Cancer Nurse at Derriford Hospital having worked abroad and other cancer centres including the Royal Marsden Hospital London and Velindre Hospital Cardiff. Sian says "I have also been diagnosed with metastatic cancer and currently living well and I hope have a unique perspective on cancer care which I can bring to the charity".

Peter Harker
Peter is a a retired solicitor and former partner in the Plymouth firm Whiteford and Crocker (now part of CWC Solicitors), which has had a long connection with the charity as one of the original partners was a founding Trustee of PCCF.
Peter has been a Trustee for over 18 years.

Jane Bewes
Jane has over 35 years of experience in the NHS, specialising in information management and service improvement. Her career has focused on enhancing healthcare delivery through data-driven operational efficiency. For the past 5 years, Jane has served as a dedicated Trustee of PCCF, bringing her expertise and strategic insight to support the charity's objectives.

Tony Shute
Clinical Nurse Specialist in neuro-oncology
I have worked for the NHS for 52 years having trained as a Registered Nurse. My career has predominantly been in cancer nursing having held posts in both hospital and the community. I am currently a clinical nurse specialist in neuro-oncology.

Anne O'Conner
Anne was initially secretary to Mr R Buchan, Principal Physicist and founder member of PCCF and joined PCCF as a Trustee later becoming the Hyde Park Manager in 2000 upon retirement. Anne continues to bring a wealth of experience to the charity as one of its longest serving Trustees.

Angela Barwick
MB BS BSc DCH Diploma in Cancer and Palliative Care
I have had a long association with the PCCF who funded me in the late 1990s as Macmillan GP Facilitator providing Cancer and Palliative Care Education to the Primary and Secondary Care Community in and around Plymouth.
I was a GP for 20 years then worked as a Doctor at St Lukes Hospice.
I have been a Trustee for nearly 10 years. It has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Chris Bowen
Radiotheraphy Services Manager
Chris is an experienced Radiotherapy Services Manager with over 31 years of clinical and managerial expertise in the field of radiotherapy. With a strong foundation in radiotherapy practice and healthcare leadership, he has successfully led multidisciplinary teams in delivering high-quality, patient-centred treatments.
Driven by a passion for innovation, Chris has championed the development and implementation of advanced radiotherapy techniques at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. This work has significantly improved patient outcomes and expanded access to cutting-edge radiotherapy services for both local and regional cancer patients.
Chris recognises that staff development is essential to maintaining a safe, efficient, and compassionate service. Committed to excellence, Chris actively supports personal and professional growth within the team, fostering a knowledgeable and skilled workforce dedicated to continuous service improvement and an enhanced patient experience.
As a Trustee of the Plymouth and Cornwall Cancer Fund, Chris is committed to ensuring that funds are allocated to the most deserving causes and projects, with the aim of improving services for both patients and staff.

Robin Laney
Robin is retired Head of Radiotherapy Physics at Derriford Hospital, having worked for the NHS for 36 years, he is dedicated to ensuring that the people of Plymouth and Cornwall receive the best quality of radiotherapy treatment, and remains involved with the Plymouth Oncology Centre. The new treatment machines coming into service in 2025/6 will deliver state-of-the-art therapy and Robin will be working in the interests of cancer patients receiving radiation treatments.
